The Pool Blog was created after closing my swimming pool and spa business of 18 years. 2 locations, 6 trucks, 5-10 employees depending on the season, a bitchin web site, a published blog.. All of that and I felt the desire to move on to something much more rewarding.
To put a number on my years of experience it would equate to a lifetime. My parents started their pool business in 1972 inside of a two car garage. I was born is 71. You do the math. This business is ingrained in my heart & soul. I’ve literally put my blood, sweat & tears working in the pool and spa industry.
I remember being on job sites as early as five years old. I’ve been at the kitchen table with my dad selling pools. I’ve been in the hole digging pools and installing bottoms. I have installed in-ground vinyl liner pools, above ground pools, fiberglass pools, concrete pools, and hot tubs. I have worked on both residential and commercial pools. I’ve worked on pool openings, closings & swimming pool weekly service routes.
My mom and dad retired in 2008. Years before my Dad retired he told me this, “you need to start your own business because I am not just going to give you mine”. So, in April of 1999, Crystal Clear Pools got off the ground. In 2011, I opened my first retail store. In 2012, I opened a bulk chemical and service warehouse. In December of 2016 an opportunity became available I could not pass up. I felt it was time. Time to make a change for me and for my family. I knew I had the knowledge and experience to help other pool dealers working in this business.
It did not take long for me to make the move. I sold my business in January of 2017. I made the move to the corporate world working in business development for Poolcorp, the largest pool, spa and backyard distributor in the world. Working in business development would allow me to utilize my talents in marketing, merchandising, construction, installation, and product knowledge. My passion is helping ambitious pool business owners achieve success through developing smart business strategies.
The Pool Blog is for business owners. Pool and spa business owners will be able to find the resources they need to be successful. Many business owners are struggling. My hope is that I can provide valuable information. If I can prevent one business owner from making the same mistakes I did over the last 35 plus years it will be a win for everyone. I hope other business owners will join the team and share their insights. Join the team on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
